Inspection Results

Date: 2018-11-13 Type: Inspection Violations: 0 critical, 0 noncritical
Comments: “Informal complaint” investigation. Director of dining services at the college notified the health department of a student who complained and posted to Facebook that they found a worm in their food. The student posted that it came from the rice they had, but upon seeing the video, the staff believed it could have came from the fresh strawberries, as it was still alive. They discarded all strawberries from that day just to be safe. The issue was discussed with the person in charge during the inspection. All produce are received refrigerated from C’s Farm’s, stored directly in the walk-in cooler, and are then washed and prepped as needed for the service line. Discussed produce washing with other staff members as well. They stated they are always very diligent about washing items and discarding anything that isn’t up to par. They have also been paying close attention to other food items since the complaint last month about the same issue of a student finding a worm in their rice. Discussed with person in charge that they were doing as much as they could, and to continue to wash produce and keep a close eye out for insects, worms, etc., as they are very likely to be in/on fresh produce. Discussed that they could call C’s Farms to see if they have had any complaints/calls regarding the same issue, but that it was unlikely much could be done on their end. Kitchen still looks in good order, very clean with no obvious issues. Food is stored and handled properly. Rice is stored in a large, food grade container, that was clean and appeared to be free of any insects/worms. Person in charge said they go through the rice pretty quickly and thoroughly wash the container each time it is emptied.
